Cummins Onan Energy Command 30W

EC-30W AutoStart

Worry-Free Control of Your Power Systems

  • Starts and stops the generator as required to maintain battery health
  • Will only start the generator if shore power is NOT present
  • Automatic generator turn on to meet air conditioning demands if coach gets too hot
  • Wireless - RV owners can install themselves

Introducing the newest RV power generation solution -- Energy Command™ AutoStart. The EC-30W is the first AutoStart system specifically designed for RV owners to install themselves. This provides worry-free control for most Cummins Onan diesel, gas, or LP generators. While high-end diesel RV generators have added AutoStart as a factory option in recent years, most RRV generator users who could use an AutoStart system on their existing RV don’t have one. Because the EC-30W is wireless, the average RV owner can install it on their own without paying for installation. At the same time, the EC-30W maintains several features that are unique to the Energy Command family. These unique features include:

  • Detection of shore power so the EC-30W will only start the generator if shore power is NOT present and batteries get low or the RV gets too hot. This allows the RV user to use the EC-30W as a back-up to shore power in campgrounds with weak or intermittent power.
  • An accelerometer to detect when the RV moves to prevent the EC-30W from accidentally starting the generator when the RV is placed inside an enclosed space.
  • Battery backup to maintain settings in the EC-30W when power is removed. (Don't have to constantly reset the clock.)

Cummins Onan Energy Command 30W (EC-30W) - Cummins Onan EC-30W puts RV power in the palm of your hand.

Cummins Onan Energy Command 30W consists of a receiver that is wired to the generator and a hand-held transmitter that is used to automatically start and stop the generator as required to maintain battery health and temperature inside the RV.

The Cummins Onan EC-30W is a wireless generator Auto Start with the following benefits:

  • Remotely starts and stops a generator from up to 100 ft away
  • Compatible with all current model Cummins Onan RV generators
  • Easy for any RV owner to install; instructions included.
  • Digitally encrypted code ensures remote starts only your generator
  • Rechargeable and can be wall mounted
  • Automatic generator turn on to meet air conditioning demands for up to four units
  • Regularly monitors and displays battery levels and provides power to the inverter to charge batteries
  • Unique "look-ahead" feature tops off battery prior to "quiet time"
  • Easily program your own "quiet time" hours and battery charging preferences
  • Automatically starts/stops generator on low/full batteries
  • Displays generator hour meter, maintenance reminders and diagnostic text messages for easy troubleshooting
  • Safety start inhibits automatic generator starting in unsafe conditions

There are 2 modules to the system. The generator module is mounted in the generator compartment and plugs into the generator remote harness. This allows the unit to turn the generator on and off based on wireless signals from the remote module mounted inside the RV. The generator module includes the accelerometer to detect when the RV moves and shut off the auto function as a safety. It also connects to the B+ battery terminal on the generator to provide power to the unit and detect house battery voltage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We already have AutoStart systems, what makes the EC-30W special?
Energy Command 30W in hand This is the first AutoStart system specifically designed for the RV aftermarket. While high-end diesel RV generators have added AutoStart as a factory option in recent years, there are literally several hundred thousand RV users who could use an AutoStart system on their existing RV and don't have one.
Why would someone want to add an AutoStart to their RV?
Two reasons: pets and batteries. A large percentage of RV users travel with pets. We like to leave our pets in the RV, but want to be confident that our pets will stay cool. Instead of wasting fuel by having the generator on all day, using the EC-30W allows the generator to come on only when the coach gets too hot/cold. With the ability to monitor shore power, the EC-30W also can act as insurance against the loss of power in a campground. (A common occurrence.)

You spend a lot of time managing your batteries so they have power at night when you can't turn on your generator. An AutoStart like the EC-30W monitors the batteries to ensure they are full prior to quiet time to maximize available power and to prevent the batteries from being deeply discharged which shortens their life. By setting the local campground quiet times, the EC-30W can top off batteries prior to quiet time to maximize battery life. Deeply discharging batteries significantly reduces their life. Regular use of the EC-30W can prevent deep battery discharge, saving you money. NOTE: There is no guarantee of operation with any AutoStart. None of the products in an RV are life-safety rated, and any one of a dozen products could fail, causing the heat in an RV to rise.

How does the EC-30W work?
Energy Command 30W plugged in There are 2 modules to the system.

The remote module contains the display and the keypad to allow you to set functions and place the unit into auto. The remote has a built in thermostat to detect temperature inside the RV. You set the temperature at which you want the generator to come on and then must set the air conditioner to on with a temperature set below that of the remote module.

The remote module contains a rechargeable battery which provides a minimum of 24 hours of power without recharge. When the AC charger for the remote module is plugged into a wall outlet NOT connected to the RV inverter, the remote module can detect the presence of shore power to prevent the EC-30W from turning on the generator when another source of AC power is present.

With which generator models is the EC-30W compatible?  Generally all generators sold in the last 10 years are compatible.
  • Diesels: All QD models, Spec A & Higher (EXCEPTION: QD3200 not compatible)
  • Gas/LP: KV (QG2500/2800), Spec D & Higher
  • Gas/LP: KY (QG3600/4000), Spec J & Higher
  • Gas/LP: HGJA (QG5500/6500/7000), Spec A & Higher
  • The EC-30W works with all inverter/chargers, converters, and air conditioners on the market.
How much will it cost?

What’s included?
Included in the EC-30W package are the interior remote with rechargeable battery, an AC plug-in charger for the remote which also acts to detect shore power, the generator module, and user/installation manual. To complete the job, the customer will need a Y adapter for their generator wiring harness. There are 3 versions of the Y adapter:
  • 044-00088 Diesel Generators
  • 044-00086 QG2500/2800 Only
  • 044-00087 All other QG Generators
What kind of range does the EC-30W have?
The range on an EC-30W is up to 150 feet, but what really matters is the amount of metal surrounding the RV generator compartment. The more metal, the shorter the range. While the EC-30W has worked with all RV generators tested to date, there are no absolute guarantees. If there should be range issues, we recommend moving the generator module to maximize range.
What's the warranty?
90 day warranty.
