Caterpillar has
announced a new 2-year warranty on a global basis for
its Tier 2 and Tier 3/Stage IIIa compliant industrial
diesel engines with ACERT Technology.
The warranty period
for engines with ACERT Technology is 24 months or 3,000
hours, whichever comes first (with the first 12 months
at unlimited hours). A third year of warranty covers
five major components: cylinder block casting, cylinder
head casting, crankshaft (excluding bearings), camshaft
and connecting rods.
Announcement of
the new warranty was made by Chuck Wills, marketing
manager of Cat’s Industrial Power Systems.
“Dependability and
reliability, of course, are at the crux of any warranty
improvement,” Wills said. “We wouldn’t have extended
our warranty coverage if we didn’t have enormous
confidence in ACERT Technology, which now has proven
experience both on- and off-highway. Our customers are
delighted with the performance of ACERT Technology.”
There are nine engines in the industrial ACERT
Technology lineup, seven of which meet Tier 3/Stage IIIa
emissions standards and two that meet Tier 2
requirements. The Tier 3/Stage IIIa engines are:
-
C6.6 ACERT
rated from 119 to 250 hp (89 to 168 kW) @ 2200
rpm;
-
C7 ACERT
rated from 175 to 300 hp (131 to 224 kW) @
2100/2500 rpm;
-
C9 ACERT
rated from 275 to 375 hp (205 to 280 kW) @
1800/2200 rpm;
-
C11 ACERT
rated from 325 to 450 hp (243 to 336 kW) @
1800/2100 rpm;
-
C13ACERT
rated from 385 to 520 hp (287 to 388 kW) @
1800/2100 rpm;
-
C15 ACERT
rated from 440 to 595 hp (329 to 444 kW) @
1800/2100 rpm; and
-
C18 ACERT
rated from 575 to 785 hp (429 to 585 kW) @
1800/2100 rpm.
The Tier 2 engines
with ACERT Technology are:
A little history:
In 2002, Caterpillar introduced ACERT Technology to the
on-highway market, where emissions standards are tighter
and the need more urgent than in the off-highway
market. Also in 2002 Cat introduced its first engine
with ACERT Technology to the off-highway market, the
C18. Since then, an additional eight engines with ACERT
Technology have been launched.
The Cat® ACERT
Technology for emissions reduction revolves around
precise control of the combustion cycle accomplished via
a systems approach to air management, electronics, fuel
systems and combustion systems.
ACERT Technology
blends both new and existing engine technology to meet
the various global exhaust emissions regulations facing
the diesel engine industry. While ACERT Technology is
the same across all the engine families, there are
differences, engine to engine, in how the technology is
implemented.
