GE Zenith - ZTSCT, ZBTS, ZBTSD & ZBTSCT Series Transfer Switches - Closed Transition & Open, Closed and Delayed Transition w/ Bypass Isolation. Enclosed Only.
Zenith is of the world leaders in emergency and standby power transfer solutions, Zenith keeps your power on. Zenith is committed to providing a full range of quality-driven products, backed by nationwide 24-hour service and support.

The switches in this group are designed for specific critical applications. They are utilized in industrial standard applications requiring dependability and ease of operation. These switches combine reliability, flexibility and ease of use in a rugged industrial package. All these switches work together with any remote-start generator that use two-wire control, allowing the standby power system to be fully automatic. Designed for specific applications, this Series builds on ZTS technology while providing a pre-engineered project solution.

The ZTS Series is the building block of our transfer switch product line including all the switches shown on this page. This ruggedly built power contactor family of switches has been specifically designed for transfer switch duty with dependability, versatility and user friendliness of prime concern. These special switches are available in NEMA enclosures to the customer’s specifications.

ZTSCT Closed Transition Loads such as electronic equipment, HID lighting, motor starters and the like are sensitive to even the 30- to 100-millisecond outage experienced during a typical transfer switch operation. Therefore, testing and use of the standby system may not be optimized and necessary system checks may be omitted, because of concerns about the effects of transfer. In addition, opportunities for peak shaving and utility incentive rates may be passed over because of the inability to accept short power interruptions.

GE Zenith's proven switching technology combines with controls developed through years of experience with synchronizing switchgear to provide worry-free transfers in a closed transition mode. With GE Zenith Controls' high-speed drive system, the overlap of the normal and alternate sources is less than 100 milliseconds. When one source is not within normal limits, such as during a power outage, the ZTSCT operates in an open transition mode. Closed transition operation (no power interruption) during transfer and retransfer when sources are within specified parameters  Open transition transfer operation is initiated upon a source failure .

ZBTS Bypass-Isolation In critical applications such as hospitals, data centers and airports, power cannot be interrupted for maintenance of automatic transfer switches. In such circumstances, a bypass-isolation switch is essential and is often required by code. This model is the solution when interruption of power during service or testing is not acceptable. Consisting of two major modules-the Automatic Transfer (ATS) and the Bypass-Isolation Switch-the ZBTS Series incorporates the rugged construction of all Ge Zenith ZTS Series automatic switches with a quick make/quick break bypass switch manual load transfer handle and the SZenith control/interlock system, which consists of both mechanical and electrical interlocks. The bypass uses normal failure sensing and a time delay to start the engine automatically if a failure occurs when the ATS has been removed for service-which can be done without disturbing the load.
ZBTSD Bypass-Isolation-Delayed Transition The ZBTSD Series incorporates the features of the ZBTS Bypass-Isolation Switch with those of the ZTSD unit for transfer of large motor loads, transformers, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) systems or load shedding to a neutral "off" position. In critical systems such as those of hospitals and airports, power cannot be interrupted for maintenance and testing of automatic transfer switches (ATSs).  In such circumstances, a bypass-isolation switch is essential and often required by code. The GE Zenith Controls ZBTSD Series Delayed Transition Transfer/Bypass-Isolation Switch meets requirements for inspection and/or maintenance of the delayed transition transfer switch without power interruption.  The ZBTSD Series incorporates the rugged construction of all GE Zenith ZTS Series switches with a quick-make/quick-break manual load transfer handle and Zenith  control/interlock system, consisting of both mechanical and electrical interlocks. The bypass uses normal failure sensing and a time delay to start the engine automatically if a failure occurs when the ATS has been removed for service.
ZBTSCT Closed Transition-Bypass Isolation The ZBTSCT Closed Transition Transfer Switch may be outfitted with a bypass-isolation switch for the utmost in reliability and versatility. The ZBTSCT Series provides the ability to withdraw the transfer switch unit for maintenance or inspection.  Using the proven switching technology of the ZTS/ZTSD Series of transfer switches, combined with controls developed during GE Zenith Controls' years of experience, the ZBTSCT Series allows an overlap of normal and alternate sources of less than 100 milliseconds. When conditions are sensitive to generator voltage drop or frequency dips, GE Zenith Controls can provide a variation of the closed transition method of transfer that combines the attributes of a ZTSCT with generator paralleling switchgear. This method of transfer requires greater coordination with the utility company and, typically, more sophisticated relay protection schemes. We suggest you specify option SL on your ZBTSCT (SL) unit and consult your GeneratorJoe representative early in the project cycle to ensure proper application.

Standard Features for all  ZTSCT, ZBTS, ZBTSD & ZBTSCT Series Transfer Switches

  • Load is not interrupted during bypass & isolation operation
  • Automatic transfer switch is located on a draw-out mechanism to facilitate maintenance
  • Emergency power systems can be electrically tested without disturbing the load
