# HOW TO SELECT A TRAILER - PROPER SIZING

FORMULA: Weight of GenSet + Tank weight + (tank gallons times fuel weight) = Total payload. If you don't know the gallons of your tank use the table below to calculate the tank gallons. The weight of fuels is shown on the table below.
Dimensions of Tanks Yields Gallons Gallons contained in rectangular tanks. Measurements in inches: Height X Width X Length divided by 231 Gallons contained in cylindrical tanks Measurements in inches: Height X Width X Length divided by .0034 Weights of fluids per gallon in lbs. Aviation Gas 5.9  -  Regular Gas 6.1  -  Diesel Fuel 7.2  -  Lube Oil 8.5  -  Water 8.3
EXAMPLE:  Tank under generator or separate 100 kW Diesel GenSet with enclosure weighs 1,476 lbs Fuel tank is 175 gallons and weighs 1006 lbs empty Fuel weight is 175 times 7.2 (from chart above) equals 1260 lbs GenSet  + Tank Weight  +  Fuel Weight  =  Payload + any other additional weights to be carried on the trailer. 1,476  + 1006 + 1260  =  3,742 Go down the PAYLOAD column (column 5) on the Trailers Without Tanks chart. Since the GenSet and the tank are NOT part of the trailer we will look for a Flat Bed trailer. The first Flat bed trailer on the chart that is larger than the 3,742 payload is GJTR-5 FB. This is the one to select. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMPLE:  Tank built into the trailer. 100 kW Diesel GenSet with enclosure weighs 1,476 lbs Fuel tank is built into the trailer is 170 gallons Fuel weight is 175 times 7.2 (from chart above) equals 1260 lbs GenSet   +  Fuel Weight  =  Payload  + any other additional weights to be carried on the trailer. 1,476  + 1260  =  2,736 Since the GenSet and the tank ARE part of the trailer go to the Trailers With Built In Fuel Tanks chart and see the size column (column 2). The first trailer with a 170 gallon tank is GJTR-7 170.  Look at the payload for this trailer and it shows 3,634. We needed 2,736 lbs in this example. Since 3,634 is larger the GJTR-7 170 is one to select. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
